Kindly take note that a General Meeting of the Community Police Forum, Sector 3, Wierdabrug will be held on Monday, 27 May 2013 at 19:00 at the Springvale Primary School, Wierda Park. The school is in Friederiche str, Wierda Park.

Real Life Experience.
Jomi Vermaak, the girl that was recently highjacked and abducted by the hijackers in Eldoraigne agreed to come and share her nightmare experience with us. For those who don't know, one of our CPF members heard the noise, saw what was happening and phoned the CPF Call Centre who informed patrollers and the police.

Crime Stats
We will also share the latest crime statistics with you and we will give feedback in respect of the crime situation specifically since we started to increase patrols in our area.

Recruitment
All residents are welcome to attend. We encourage you to invite and bring along at least one new member to this meeting.

Agenda

SAFE TODAY, ALIVE TOMORROW!

The safety of us, the community is our concern and responsibility.

CELLPHONE NUMBERS

We are busy creating an sms list. Kindly send your cell number to hannesdubuisson@me.com if you haven't received this message in your e-mail with your cell number listed on it.

PATROLS AND INVOLVEMENT

It is important that members do get involved to secure a safer community for all of us. The purpose and aim of a Community Police Forum is not that 1% of members try to make the community a safer place for the rest of the 99%. We all have to become involved in one or another way.

It is not required of any member to apprehend criminals an risk their lives. We are the eyes and the ears of the police. Each and every member can contribute by simply paying attention to what is happening in his or her close vicinity.

CPF's in other areas like Lyttelton and Pierre van Ryneveld recently improved community involvement an patrols and they have several members moving around in their areas on a regular basis now. This has caused crime to shift to our areas. Crime is definitely on the increase in our Sectors and the more other areas patrol their streets, the more criminals will move into our Sectors.

This is even the case with individuals streets. The more members of the community are active and on the lookout in their own streets, the less crime will take place in that street. The criminals will simply move to the next street where there is no activity by members of the community.

Please let us not allow the criminals, drug lords and prostitutes to take over our streets and neighburhoods. The crime rate has a direct impact on the value of our properties. When crime is high, the value of property is very low in that area. That enables the bad guys to move in, which in turn will cause higher crime rates.

In crime free areas the price of property is extremely high. So, it becomes a lose-lose situation when one wants to sell in a high crime area and move to a crime free area.

Contact us now to discuss how you can become involved. Start by recruiting everyone in your street to become a member of the CPF. Safety lies in numbers. Stop thinking its the duty of the Police to protect us. They cannot do so.

RADIOS

It is almost time to renew your radio licence. We will soon announce when the reprogramming of radios will take place. At the reprogramming we will collect the licence fees.

It is a requirement to have proof of payment of licence fees to have in your possession a radio programmed with the frequency of the CPF. Please ensure you attend the reprogramming.

New channels will be programmed and radios not programmed will not work any longer. There is no longer a moratorium on radios. No individual may however program his or her own radio. Radios may only be programmed by authorised people. The programming of own DTMF code is also strictly not permissible and any person found doing so will face disciplinary action.

Only radios that can transmit DTMF code with PTT ID will in future be allowed on the radio network. 5-tone is not acceptable as it will need a separate system to administer.

It is a criminal offence to disrupt and wilfully interrupt another user when transmitting. it is also a criminal offence to not identify oneself when using the radio.

It is recommended that you test your radio regularly. Do so by calling Sierra 1, the call cantre and ask to do a radio test. Do not simply press the button to hear whether the radio is working. It may transmit a signal, but there could be something wrong with the microphone or speaker.

Please let us know if you need radio training.

TSHWANE SPCA

TSHWANE SPCA LOGO

We are open to the public Monday-Friday 08:00 till 16:30 and Saturdays 08:00 till 12:00.

We are able to receive stray and unwanted animals 24hrs of the day, 7 days a week and there is always an inspector on call – the after hours number is 0834533863.  Our veterinary consulting hours at Waltloo are strictly weekdays 09:00 till 11:00 - we do not have after-hours veterinary services and if your animal gets sick or injured, please take him/her to your local vet.

Can you help animals in need?
Many animals are handed over to the Tshwane SPCA - it could be for several reasons....owners moving to a house or retirement village where no pets were allowed or the owners could not afford to keep pets anymore, maybe there was a personality clash with another animal in the house. The reasons are many why people bring animals to the SPCA, but regardless of the reason, we are bound to accept every animal that is brought to us.
Please help animals by....

  • Signing up for or increasing your current monthly debit order
  • Making a donation of R200.00 to help a sick animal in our care
  • Giving R350.00 to cover the costs of x rays if indicated
  • Supporting our Inspectorate - R500.00 would help an abandoned, abused or neglected animal
  • Attending our fundraising functions (see below for upcoming events)
  • Or donate your chosen amount to help animals in need in Tshwane.

Our donations form is attached for ease of use.

Doberman Minature Pincher found on Mothers Day 13 May 2012 in Hilton Street Eldoraigne

Good morning to you all,

This doggie request came upon me yesterday; a Doberman Miniature Pincher, found on 13 May 2012 (Mother's Day) in Hilton Street, Eldoraigne, Centurion.

A male dog with a blue collar, in excellent condition, very obedient, great with people, kids as well as the domestic woman. He is a bit weary though of the resident cat, not too bad, probably just not used to cats from his previous home.

The family who has given him shelter since 13 May 2012, live in a complex, and cannot keep him much longer. They have asked around everywhere in the complex, but nobody claimed this dog as being his/hers.

Do you perhaps know where we can put this doggy on a LOST/FOUND site (Barkingmad etc.) - I am a bit wary to put him out on the network right now, as I do not know whether he is neutered or not? I am not looking for trouble and having fingers pointed at me again via the networkers.

Please, any suggestions would be welcome to find the rightful owner, and if you know of a foster home, please contact me, or Ria van den Bergh on 083
300 1514. We do not want to send him to the Tshwane Centurion or Waltloo SPCA.

Ria/Hennie, could you please have this doggie scanned at your nearest vet to establish whether he has been micro-chipped? Thank you.

Best regards,
Brigitte

Details of exactly which suburbs fall within which Sector and a map showing exactly where each sector is located will be provided by the Wierda Bridge Police Station HERE soon,
so you can be sure of which car will be closest to call.

WATCH THIS SPACE!

IMPORTANT: After contacting the patrol car in your area, PLEASE still report the crime to Tel. 10111 afterwards, so that a case number is registered there (as would have happened in the past) for the crime being reported - so that it can be tied to the SAP patrol car's response.

These "Flying Squad" localised patrol cars are NOT meant to replace the 10111 system, just to allow far quicker local responses for it, and so the normal 10111 system still needs to be followed up with afterwards.

The three digits in brackets behind each suburb's name is the Wierda Bridge police area reference number (which should be included in Police reports, where possible).

ANIMALS LOST, FOUND and NEEDING HOMES

2 Middle-aged citizens require
loving caregivers for 6 months.

Toby above Jess below

Toby (above) and Jess (below) require a temporary foster home for approximately 6 months while their owners get established in London, and find accommodation where pets will be allowed, during the time that it takes for Toby and Jess to be cleared to travel.

There has to be a minimum delay of 30 days after they get their Rabies vaccinations before they can get their blood tests to ensure that they are rabies-free, followed by a period of 90 days before they can get the final blood tests and receive Health Certificates signed by the State Vet to be cleared to travel at any time after that.

The Pet travel company will collect them from the foster home when they are ready to leave.

Unfortunately, their owner, Sandy, will have to leave her home in Jo'burg at the end of January, 2012, and cannot keep the dogs at her temporary accomodation until she leaves for overseas in February, 2012, so, she is urgently looking for a caring foster home for Toby and Jess, from the beginning of February, 2012, for approximately 6 months.

Sandy will pay for their upkeep, Vet costs (and of course the rabies shots and the blood tests), until they are ready to travel.

Sandy says that, "Toby and Jess are very social, and even though Jess is a staffie, she is so friendly and laid back and gets on well with all dogs. She has lived on a farm with a Sausage Dog (who was the matriarch) , Jack Russells and Labradors. Toby gets on well with all breeds but in particular, the males of the breeds! He just loves male dogs! They thrive on human interaction which I why I would prefer a Foster Home where they will get more human interaction. Both are well trained, house trained, well mannered loving dogs and my focus is to get them Overseas as quickly as possible.

My dogs are both neutered/spayed and both about 9 yrs. Both in excellent health although Toby, the male has just had a knee op and recovered well. Both still think they are puppies occasionally and need lots of hugs and love. They are gentle, easy-going and have been on a farm with 4 other dogs and fitted in well with them, as well as horses and pigs! They love kids and human company, love walks but also love sleeping too. They can sleep indoors or out, don't mess at all even if inside for 12 hours.

Jess, the female staffie, is very gentle and loving. If you cover her with a blanket she will lie by your feet for hours. Toby, the male Labrador cross (small breed) has a sense of humour and always looks like he is about to tell a joke, he just hates thunder and fire crackers but a few rescue tabs calm him down. They have a kennel, food and water feeder, inside bed and I can give money for their upkeep too. They don't need a big garden, just love and care.

I took them away to Magaliesburg for a brief holiday and they loved it. They are very social and welcomed all other doggies to the pool area, played with them, swam and just loved interacting so they will fit into any situation where other animals are. They have spent time on a farm with horses, sheep and pigs. They loved kids and playing but also love nothing better than sleeping at your feet. Very special friends.

Both are in good health.

My dogs are already microchipped. I will do their rabies now, and then the 1st blood draw before I go in Feb. They then have to wait 90 days for the next blood test and thereafter can travel anytime. The test results will remain valid.

Therefore, if you can please look for 6 months, from 1st February for my dogs to be fostered. My daughters reside here in Jhb and are at university and can assist with transporting the dogs to the vets from the Foster care home for their required blood tests and health certificates, provided it is in the Jhb/Pta area. (They both reside at varsity Res and unfortunately can't keep the dogs). Once the time is up, Petwings will arrange the collection of the dogs from the foster care and air travel.

Once again, I will cover all food and vet costs for them while in care. They simply need a home and a garden in which to wait while I get sorted.

Thank you so much,

Regards

Sandy"

Nutty
NUTTY

This is a Jack Russell pure bread pup. Her name is Nutty. She is 1 and half years old. She is good with other dogs. She has been spayed and had all her injections. She is house trained. And knows the basics such as sit, stay, shake paw, go outside. She is intelligent and is easily trained and she likes to please. She has a lovely nature and is friendly and loves to cuddle (she even cuddles our cat - see photo). Her favorite game is to fetch a ball and bring it back.

We adore her and she has brought great joy to our lives but unfortunately my boyfriend has been retrenched and we have to move and can not take her with us. Breaks my heart but I have to find her a new home. I refuse to send her to SPCA. We don’t have children, but she has been fine with children that have been at our house.

She has NEVER bitten or even so much as growled at anyone (other than the postman). We used to take her for runs on the beach as she is an energetic dog. So I would like to find a home for her that has a family willing to walk her often or that has a nice big garden. She is used to other dogs and I would hate to think that she would be alone, so I hope she will find a home with not only a human family but some other canine family too.

If anyone is looking for a new family member to join their home please contact me. I need to find her a home as soon as possible.

Bobby and Widgett - JHB
Looking for a loving home

Please tell your friends about these dogs.
They have been through enough and deserve a loving home.

They can be free-flighted to any centre in SA, subject to a successful home check.

Bobby is a mixed breed, with predominantly Shepherd genes - she is about 5 years old.

Widgett is a Black Pitbull cross Chow. He is a real "puppy" and doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, and just loves biscuits and attention! He is about 3 years old. He looks fierce though, which is a plus!!!

They have become firm friends and they both have the sweetest, most gentle natures. They are used to children, and don't seem to worry about cats. We need to find them a loving home together.

Husky Rescue logo

Husky Rescue Southern Africa is a non-profit organisation that specialises in the rescue and re-homing of huskies and other Nordic breeds of dogs. With the popularity of the Siberian, Malamute and other Nordic breeds increasing over the last couple of years we have found a dramatic increase in the number of lost and abandoned dogs.

Families have seen movies like Balto and Eight Below and dog lovers are captured by the beautiful white coats and gorgeous blue eyes and puppies were purchased by the dozen. An increase in demand results in an increase of supply and as a result irresponsible backyard breeders have flooded neighbourhoods with puppies without educating people on the very specific needs of these breeds of dogs.

Families have found themselves unable or unwilling to accommodate the needs of the dogs and dogs are found roaming the streets, abandoned or even worse; abused. Hence the need for an organisation like ours.

It has become evident that people are ill-informed and ignorant of the very specific needs of the breed. To compound the issue of ignorance, back-yard breeding has increased the number of husky puppies available to the public and husky owners are purchasing pets with bad bloodlines and genetic defects.

Husky Rescue SA has developed a rescue program to accommodate these unwanted, abandoned and very often abused dogs.

Car Doorhandle showing hole

They have a new way to rob you now! What will they think of next!

A friend sent me this email and I am sending it on to my Friends
Wednesday, I approached my truck from the passenger side to place my computer bag (aka my man purse) in the front passenger seat.

As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a hole right under my door handle. My first thought was, "someone has shot my truck!"
I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and the "light" slowly began to come on.

I phoned my friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.

"Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and unlock it, just as if they have a key.

No alarms, broken glass or anything. I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to him I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings. Here is where it gets scary!

"Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so subtle that you don't even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where "home" is.

Now they know what you drive, go to your home, and if your vehicle isn't there they assume you aren't and break in your home."

He says they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one or two credit cards.

By the time you realize there has been a theft, they may have already had a couple days or more to use them.

I didn't realize my situation for two full days!

They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.

Periodically walk around your car, daily if you are in a shopping center or other parking area.

Report thefts immediately.... your bank w/missing check numbers, your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

( Above is picture of what the hole looks like. )

A warning:  Today an old  lady was 'abducted' in Valhalla from a shop and driven to Reds Mall where she was co-erced to draw all her savings - R34 000.00.  We have heard that they persuaded her to draw the funds as she had won a 'prize' and her money would be doubled.  Needless to say, whatever the story, she has lost the money.  A similar incident happened on Saturday in the area.

Please be careful who you go with and who you trust.

The vehicle involved in today's story was a white Toyota Cressida with
two white men (Portuguese appearance) and possibly one black man.

Renew your car licence at the Post Office

Gauteng motorists can now renew their motor vehicle licenses at selected Post Offices in the province.  This partnership between the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport and the Post Office is an effort to take the services to the people while improving service delivery to communities.

Motorists must produce a printed renewal notice and an ID book  to renew a motor vehicle licence.  If they do not have a renewal notice, motorists can complete the relevant documentation for the license to be processed.

This initiative is in phase one; phase two will culminate into the expansion of other National Road Traffic Act services.

Among others, the Government in partnership with the Post Office is rendering payment services for social grants, water and electricity bills for more than 100 municipalities.

Ndala Mnisi, head of Consumer Services at the Post Office, said at the pre-launch ceremony that the Post Office constantly develops new services to meet the connectivity needs of the nation.  The Post Office partners with government to provide services such as this, said Mnisi.

We are delighted to partner with the Post Office to facilitate the payment and issuing of motor vehicle licences, said Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Mr Bheki Nkosi.  He added with longer operating hours, opening on Saturday and some of them on Sundays, located within the communities and shopping malls, the Post Office becomes a strategic partner to the Department in ensuring accessibility of services. Motorists can now conveniently pay their motor vehicle licences and municipal bills at the Post Office at the same time.  Motorists who renew licences at a post office immediately receive a valid licence disk and receipt.

MEC Bheki Nkosi will launch this partnership at an event to be held as follows:

Date   :           30-07-2009

Time   :           18h00

Venue:           Gallagher Estate, Midrand

Motor vehicle licences can be renewed at the following post offices in Gauteng:

OUTCOME OF RESEARCH ON RESIDENTIAL ROBBERIES

Dr. Rudolph Zinn of the School of Criminal Justice at UNISA did intensive research on residential robberies and attacks, and interviewed many arrested and convicted robbers.

Some of his findings are alarming, some are surprising - but they are all well worth taking note of. Then make your own conclusion and beef up your security where necessary.

During the past year, house robberies increased by 13, 5%. Of the almost 15 000 residential robberies committed in 2008, half (50%) took place in Gauteng. The average age of a house robber is between 19 and 26 years. An average of 30% of all house robbers has either committed murder, or won't hesitate to commit murder. Only 17% of house robbers are foreigners. Of all arrested robbers, 90% had no matric or were unemployed. The 10%, who had been employed, gave up their jobs when confirming how much they could "earn" from a robbery.

Most victims or targets are affluent persons who openly display their wealth, e.g. expensive cars, jewellery, upmarket homes. Much intelligence is gathered about the target home and its residents by means of inside information supplied by domestic workers. 80% of residential robberies are committed with the help of information from domestic workers, gardeners and former employees. The robbers will monitor the home and movements for as long as is needed to formulate a plan of attack - sometimes up to two weeks.

All gangs research and monitor the response times of armed response companies. Most attacks occur between 19:00 and midnight as people is relaxed, busy cooking or watching TV, and the security systems and beams are not activated. But robberies continue until 04:00 in the morning. The biggest deterrent confirmed by robbers themselves, are small dogs that are kept inside the home. Alarm systems and armed reaction services are not considered a deterrent. Electric fences, closed-circuit TV (CCTV) and detection beams do, however, deter robbers.

An average of R5 000 is stolen during each robbery. Surprisingly, victims of house robberies are only seriously injured in 2% of all incidents. 35% of robbers robbed for basic needs (hunger, poverty), while 65%
enjoyed the money and spent it on clothes, cars, etc. The average robber commits 103 robberies over seven years before being caught. A staggering 97% of all robbers are armed, and on average there are four members in an armed robbery gang. Most of the attackers reside a 10 to 30 minute drive from the
target address. Women are more often tortured or hurt during house robberies. The conviction rate for house robberies in South Africa is only 7, 67%. In the USA it is 53%. While these statistics and facts may be disturbing, even alarming, it is trusted that it may sharpen the vigilance of each member. If you have
safety measures at your home, ensure that they are in place. Test your security equipment regularly... never be complacent and think that it only happens to other people.

It is in your own best interest rather to be safe than sorry!

HI-JACKING WARNING NOTICE

SAPS Wierdabrug have requested through the CPF that the  Public be warned of a group of 4  Black  Adult Males wearing full SAPS and METRO Uniforms driving an unmarked box shaped Golf who are responsible for hi-jacking along the R55.

Their latest brazen escapade was the hi-jacking of a truck outside the SAPS Wierdabridge police station.

If stopped by any person reportedly being a policeman demand to see the ID Card ,Force Number badge and name which must be worn on their chest. The ID Card must be checked carefully for the tell tale photostat quality (and it must not be blank on the back).

If in doubt, travel to the nearest police station or garage and take note of details and descriptions and phone 10111 immediately or your local CPF Call Centre.

Louis Fourie

Executive Chairperson: CPF SAPS Wierdabrug

PLEASE NOTE: The SAP informed us that they do NOT use unmarked civilian vehicles with just a blue light on the roof in road blocks (which is what these hi-jackers are doing).

You are entitled to not stop for civilian unmarked cars, with civilian number plates, even if people in uniform try to wave you down to stop - since there is a very high likelyhood that they will be hi-jackers.

In such a case follow the advice in Louis' last paragraph above.

However, DON'T try this at a "real" road block with marked SAP vehicles, with SAP number plates.

Julius, our gardener, told us on Saturday that the people across the road from us (where his brother Sam works as a gardener) were conned by a white man and a black woman pretending to be sick and in need of water. Sam took her through to the servants' quarters and whilst he was gone another 3 or 4 blacks moved in. Fortunately they didn't take anything as far as we know but they were driving a white Toyota - sorry, can't give you any more information.

I think the people in Valhalla should be warned about this scam.

STROKE RECOGNITION

Tell everyone about this.

The life you save might be your own!

During a Braai a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) she replied she "just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes". They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm, Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the Braai - had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.

It only takes a minute to read this-

Recognizing a Stroke

A neurologist says that if he can see a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting the patient to a hospital within 3 hours - which is tough.

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify and lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

READ AND LEARN THESE "3" STEPS:

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1. *Ask the individual to SMILE.

2. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

3. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. ...It is sunny out today)

If he or she has ANY trouble with any of these tasks, call paramedics immediately and describe the symptoms to them.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions.

Widespread use of this test could result in a prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage from occuring.

If everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people, you can bet that at least one life will be saved in this way.

BE A FRIEND AND SHARE THIS ARTICLE WITH AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE, you could save their lives.

In fact, the life you save might end up being your own!

Carpark scam could cost motorists dearly

A new scam has emerged that is probably already making its rounds or about to spread viciously, so drivers need to be alert about the implications of a similar "chance" encounter.

By Trail Blazer
Most drivers have had the odd brush with a car or a person, a scrape here and a scratch there - nothing too serious to worry about or give second thought to.

And this is the very trait that scam artists are depending on to fleece you and the road accident fund.

Has this happened to you: you pull out of a driveway or shopping complex and find that someone "carelessly" walks into your car?

He may apologise, or if you offer to help him, he may refuse assistance and claim that he's okay. You glance at your car and notice nothing, not a dent nor even a scratch. He walks away from the car, usually in the opposite direction.

Well, take this advice seriously. Please go to the nearest police station and report your near "accident" or "encounter" if you prefer to call it that.

It will take up time, frustrate you and the officer taking down your report, and you wonder of what worth it is to report such an insignificant incident.

Well here's the payoff line.

Most people forget about it completely, until they receive a summons in their post box, or until the "victim" turns up at their door, claiming that he was so badly struck that he was in hospital for weeks with broken bones and requiring compensation from the MVA.

A lawyer will assist him to trace you, your address, and even bring him to your door.

The lawyer benefits from the scam with the fees he charges, the scam artist has someone working at the hospital who authenticates his claims and what happens to you?

First, you are in deep trouble for not having reported the "accident" within the 24 hours allowed.

Second, if you dispute the claim, it will go to court and you will have to spend thousands defending yourself.

Thirdly, and perhaps most frighteningly, the "victim" now has access to your home address and you are a ripe victim waiting to be picked for robbery, rape and even murder.

How did they know who to choose, when you believe it was a "chance" encounter?

Well, they time you while you are shopping at the mall and take down your number plate in advance.

Then they plan the "chance" encounter so that you don't think much of it and finally, they pounce into action, with massive MVA claims.

Please, for your own protection and the protection of your families, don't ignore even the slightest "encounter". Rather report it at the nearest police station and eliminate the need to worry as you would have done your civic duty, and avoided any future problems, foreseeable or not.

Hi All

I was basically robbed yesterday in my complex by guys selling fake compost and charging a huge amount for it.

First there was only two guys who showed me a sample and asked me to open my gate so they could show me how it works, while I was talking to the guy a white truck with six more guys came and parked in front of my house.

I asked how much it was going to be and he said R12 a bag, so I said I wanted 10 bags, but while I was still telling him what I wanted they had already off loaded 43 bags onto my lawn and started raking it, this was done within four (4) minutes.

Just then my neighbour called me and told me that I should not buy from these guys because they were crooks but it was too late, but at least I managed to stop them half way. If I had let them carry on it would of cost me thousands of rands.

They stood there demanding their money and after I refused to pay them, they were getting violent and said that if I didn't pay them, they would drive their truck into my house or they will come back and sort me out. They were like animals and looked terrible. You could see that they were on drugs as well.

I have reported the incident to the crime intelligence department at the midrand police department, and an article will be going into the Midrand reporter.

I was told by friends that this as happened to many people in midrand and other areas, if this as happened to you, you can contact Captain Hulk on 083 309 3121.

There were 2 or 3  Indian guys a coloured guy and about 4 black guys.

The registration of the truck has the following details on it either 739 or 239 GP I cannot remember what the letters are.

Emergency Cell Services

The international GSM standard that allows for SIMless calling to your closest 112 control centre anywhere in the world - has been temporarily suspended in South Africa due to excessive abuse. (From May 2004).

This decision, allowed by ICASA, affects ALL GSM networks in South Africa.

In South Africa it is a punishable offence both to make hoax calls and to abuse any emergency service.

(Thanx to Litisha Richardson of Ward 64 for bringing this to our attention).

112
SEL Nood Dienste

NEW CAR HIJACKING SCHEMES

1) Imagine: You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. Then you lock all your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE.

Habit! You look into the rear-view window to back out of your parking space and you notice a piece of paper, some sort of advertisement stuck to your rear window.

So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your vehicle to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view... when you reach the back of your car, that is when the hijackers jump out of nowhere... jump into your car and take off -- your engine was running, your purse is in the car, and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME.

Just drive away and remove the paper that is stuck to your window later.

2) A new robbing tactic is fast spreading and I was nearly a victim!

Be alert on the highways!

I was on my way home at approx. 19h00 one evening from Lenmed Hospital, when a condom filled with a water resistant gel hit my windscreen.

It exploded on impact and the gel spread across the windscreen. I was curious at the time as to what the jelly was (suspecting it may have been a bird or the like) and thus drove to the next garage and had it cleaned.

Only then did it dawn on me what the intention was.

Thank goodness I did not wipe the windscreen.

The trick is this: instinctively a driver would switch the wipers on and try to wash the stuff off. Instead the goo is spread over the windscreen and blocks all vision, forcing you to stop. The wndscreen washer water does not dissolve the stuff.

THIS IS WHEN THEY ROB YOU!!!

Under no circumstances use the windscreen wipers.

Under no circumstances do you stop, even when the view is limited.
