ABOUT US.

Husky Rescue Southern Africa is a non-profit organisation that specialises in the rescue and re-homing of huskies and other Nordic breeds of dogs. With the popularity of the Siberian, Malamute and other Nordic breeds increasing over the last couple of years we have found a dramatic increase in the number of lost and abandoned dogs. Families have seen movies like Balto and Eight Below and dog lovers are captured by the beautiful white coats and gorgeous blue eyes and puppies were purchased by the dozen. An increase in demand results in an increase of supply and as a result irresponsible backyard breeders have flooded neighbourhoods with puppies without educating people on the very specific needs of these breeds of dogs. Families have found themselves unable or unwilling to accommodate the needs of the dogs and dogs are found roaming the streets, abandoned or even worse; abused. Hence the need for an organisation like ours. It has become evident that people are ill-informed and ignorant to the very specific needs of the breed. To compound the issue of ignorance, back-yard breeding has increased the number of husky puppies available to the public and husky owners are purchasing pets with bad bloodlines and genetic defects. Husky Rescue SA has developed a rescue program to accommodate these unwanted, abandoned and very often abused dogs.

All dog are taken to a veterinary clinic where he or she is treated for any illness or injuries, sterilized, vaccinated, de-wormed and micro-chipped. The dog is then placed with a foster family until a new owner can be found.

The program relies very much on the support of foster families who agree to home the dog for a short period at their own cost, until a new owner has been found. HRSA have as many as 60 or more dogs in foster care at any given time. Finding a new owner is not an easy task and potential owners and their homes are screened very carefully against very specific criteria before an adoption is allowed to take place. The organization relies on donations and small adoption fees for funding. Operating expenses are relatively high as vet bills are costly, although some of the veterinary clinics do afford non-profit discounts. We’re a group of passionate volunteers who dedicate as much time as our busy lives possibly allow to the safe rescue, rehabilitation, fostering and re-homing of these dogs.”

MISSION
Husky Rescue SA aims to effectively rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Huskies as well as to advise and counsel those having problems in an attempt to enable them to keep their dogs. Husky Rescue SA aims to be the primary organization used to deal with Huskies, husky crosses and other Nordic breed rescues and re-homing. Husky Rescue SA aims to provide a better alternative to euthanasia through utilizing their foster home database to care and rehabilitation for animals while a suitable home is found for them. HRSA aims to build awareness around the specific needs of these breeds in a proactive drive to decrease the amount of stray, abandoned and abused Huskies.

VISION
To be a nationally recognized non-profit animal rights organization that will quickly, carefully and effectively re-home abandoned, stray or abused Huskies, husky crosses and other Nordic breeds, from here-on referred to as Huskies. To encourage more widespread and extensive use of reproductive control strategies to reduce the numbers of unwanted, abandoned, and neglected Huskies; to foster greater awareness and appreciation among the public for the value of animals in society and the human animal bond and to enhance and improve the delivery of education on proper care and husbandry of Huskies to the animal-owning public.

What is this Website all about?

The intention of this Website is to provide a service to the community of Wierda Park (and surrounding suburbs).

As you will see while browsing the menu, we intend providing a wide variety of useful and entertaining services.

We will provide free basic listing of all legal and non-offensive businesses in the area, in our "blue pages".

However, we will be dependent on the support of paying advertisers to help finance the costs of producing this service.

To cater for all sizes of business, YOU determine what advertising on this site is worth to your business.
